Newton

It was a beautiful Wednesday afternoon. It wasn’t too hot or too cold, so I thought I’d catch some fresh air up by the tree. I grabbed the notebook that accompanied me everywhere I went. I would never leave my house without it because it came in handy at times. I like to write down everything that comes to mind, whether it was a poem, my week schedule, questions I thought of randomly or anything I liked/disliked about my surroundings. “Ugh, perfect,” I thought to myself after reaching the tree that seemed to be miles away, when it was really only a few feet from my house. I guess the walk seemed longer because I had to walk uphill to reach it. I sat down on the dry grass that surrounded the tree and leaned against its trunk. The peaceful moment I was having, planning out my week schedule and listening to the birds sing, didn't last long though; an apple from the tree rudely interrupted me without a warning. “Aaah... what in the...” I said as I rubbed my head. Boom! It hit me, not just the apple, but an idea that could change everything! My eyes widened as my jaw dropped. I looked around to see if anyone else had seen what I'd seen. I closed my notebook and got up from the floor. I wanted to re-test the theory I had in mind, so I let my notebook fall to the floor, just like the apple. As soon as I let go, it hit the floor, as if something from the ground had called it. I looked around again, but no one was in sight. Was I the only one thinking of this? I picked up my notebook and started writing everything that was running through my mind. The sentences weren’t even making sense, but I knew I’d understand them when I looked back.
“Could it be? Me? Did I... Did I just... discover the strongest force of nature to be known?” I thought to myself. Even after watching the apple and testing my notebook, I still couldn't believe it, so I got my pen and let it fall like I did the notebook and it did the same thing! “Yes,” I said as I looked into the distance. “I, Sir Isaac Newton, have discovered what shall be known as gravity.” I then bowed to the empty miles of dry grass that surrounded me, as if it had listened and understood everything I said.
