Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Americanah
Updated: Feb 21, 2021
Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie follows the story of Ifemelu and Obinze, the two are young and in love but after secondary school in Nigeria their lives lead them in separate directions. The novel takes place post 9/11 and is split into two narratives. One follows Ifemelu's journeys living in the United States, going to school, and eventually writing a successful blog about race as she is experiencing and observing it for the first time in the U.S. The other follows Obinze's difficult experience living undocumented in London. This novel contains themes of race, identity, immigration, and love. The characters are endearing and the story is beautifully written, I truly enjoyed every bit of this book and would recommend reading it.
