"1, 2, 3, TO THE ZOO:" A Counting Book by Eric Carle
Working at a preschool, I have come to realize that Four-year-olds are brutally honest but do not play around when it comes to their books. During circle time, my kids love to sing songs and dance; however, they would prefer to be read a book. The children in Classroom One sing songs that help them memorize the days of the week, months of the year, the continents, and the solar system. However, they are not entirely fond of numbers, but I found a book that can do the trick. Even if the children are half asleep, this book wakes them up almost instantly. In their words, “Miss Kimberly! I want to do my numbers with you.” 1, 2, 3, TO THE ZOO, a counting book by Eric Carle, is a fun book to practice numbers and introduce quantity. This book has the children count different animals one by one, all the way up to ten as they are on their way to the zoo.
