The Tattooist of Auschwitz

Updated: Feb 21, 2021

In Heather Morris’s, The Tattooist of Auschwitz, a powerful true story is presented about a Jewish man, Lale, who is given the job of tattooing at Auschwitz. As he encounters the horrors of death and discrimination within the infamous concentration camp, Lale falls in love with Gita, using all of his power to protect her and keep her safe. Although this book ignites a flame of anger within the readers as the horrors of Nazi Germany are explored, it also remains extremely human and emotional as it shows the strength of love within darkness. The movie does not do the book justice (as per usual) as the story encaptures the raw emotion and thoughts that each character encounters.
